I'd like to make four points on inflation that the MSM largely ignores.

1. No single thing causes inflation: Economies are complicated and it's ridiculous to reduce the cause to just one thing. Nor is it wholistic.

For example:
*The price of eggs went up because half the egg-laying hens died of a bird flu.
*The price of rice went up because India, which used to export 40% of the world's rice supply started limiting how much rice it exports.
*The price of gas went up for multiple reasons, including a supply reduction due to the pandemic, the Ukraine war, and OPEC inflating prices.
*The price of beef went up due to droughts that caused a grain shortage which made beef more expensive to raise
*Global supply chain issues may have contributed to as much as 60% of inflation.
*Price gouging may have had an impact, particularly once inflation started going.

The important thing to recognize is that none of those things are something that has anything to do with the government.

2. The Inflation math trick: There is an aspect of the way that percentages work that actually rewards Trump for Covid and punishes Biden for recovering from it.

It's the way percentages work. To make the math simple, let's say something cost $1.00 before covid, fell to 50 cents during covid and rose back to $1.00 after covid.

In that situation, it would have "fallen 50% under Trump" and "increased 100%" under Biden.

As ridiculous as it sounds, this is the kind of "math" used in "crediting" Trump for "lowering" the cost of things like gas, airline travel, and hotel costs, while blaming Biden for "raising" the cost of the same.

3. The inflation and job recovery double standard: There's a double standard in the way in which the media treats Trump's job losses because of the pandemic and Biden's inflation because of the pandemic.

They treat it as though the job recovery was inevitable (it wasn't) and the inflation was avoidable (it wasn't.)

In 2020, the CBO projected that unemployment would be down to 6% by now. It has been around 4% for 3 years.

The supply chain issues which caused as much as 60% of the inflation were already set in motion before Biden ever took office.

Furthermore, the part of inflation caused by the stimulus spending wouldn't have caused inflation without it actually STIMULATING the economy.

Yet, Biden somehow gets blamed for all of the inflation and credit for none of the job growth.

4. Real wages are up: Real wages, which are wages adjusted for inflation, are up. Wages are up 26% since Biden took office, while inflation is up 20%.

The last time I checked, 26% is higher than 20%.

It's also worth mentioning that Biden has the lowest average unemployment of amy President in history in spite of what he inherited, and the lowest underemployment, which is a measure of people who work two jobs because they don't make enough money with one.

GDP is up from 20.93 to 28.78 trillion, an increase of 37.5%.

And all of these are doing better than the economy was trending in 2019, meaning even if there were no pandemic, the economy wouldn't be doing this well if it continued as it was going.

Finally, Biden narrowed the wealth gap, meaning the benefits went more to the middle class than the wealthy.

He has also had record unemployment for Blacks and Hispanics.

So while stimulus spending may have caused some inflation, it had benefits that outweigh the cost.
