So two more political spam messages. The first a creepy picture of Mandy’s front yard and an attempt to paint her as a Republican and the second is a get out the vote message from Lt Gov Nungesser’s campaign. One weird thing that struck me was they had the same phone number.

@skooks That’s the part I just don’t get. They had a perfect template for their goals and refused to follow it. They’re going to inadvertently end up changing the world because they refused to give an inch but now they can’t because any lessening of the repression could lead to revolt.

@GlasnostGone The more fully Russia commits in Ukraine, the more fully they can be defeated. The U.S. interest is in a bloody, expensive quagmire. Ukraine’s interest is in a quick victory. The two only somewhat align in their goal, and don’t align at all in their methods.

@skooks Exactly and people ate it up. They hated anything that rocked the boat - you didn’t need to crush it because they would crush it for you to maintain the status quo. And you could loot freely because they didn’t care if you stole as long as they got enough to be satiated.

@skooks The more heavy-handed you get, the more united the opposition becomes, and the cycle escalates. Whereas you could simply pay them to stay home and out of the streets, crushing them movement by movement in the name of maintaining the status quo and they’d applaud you instead.

@skooks Instead, you’re creating a coalition of disparate groups all united by the fact that they’re being ripped off harder than is comfortable, they’re scrutinizing the system and finding other things going on, and so you need to be increasingly heavy-handed in your repression.

It’s not even really astroturfing if you just self-fund a campaign. Imagine being able to just loan yourself a small house for a vanity project, something like 3 years of average earnings for a local household. Amazing.
