Every article I write is a reminder that purpose is greater than position.

There was a time when I was simply a student with a dream of helping Jamaica through economics and public policy. Today, I am humbled to continue that journey by contributing to the national conversation in the Jamaica Observer.

My latest feature explores Jamaica's record J$94 billion in credit card balances—a statistic that tells a much deeper story about the pressures facing families, businesses, and our economy.

I believe economics should never exist only in textbooks. It should help people understand the world around them, influence better decisions, and inspire meaningful change.

One of the most rewarding experiences of my life so far has been graduating as an HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellow.

I’m grateful to University of Cambridge and HP for featuring my reflections on the conversations, shared experiences and lessons from Fellows across Latin America, the Caribbean and the wider world.

One idea has stayed with me:

There is more that connects us than separates us.

Across our region, the circumstances may differ, but the underlying challenges are remarkably similar: persistent learning gaps, unequal access, teachers being asked to do more with less, and education systems struggling to turn promising technology into sustainable impact.

The uncomfortable truth is that technology is rarely the hardest part.

The harder work is building trust, aligning stakeholders, understanding the realities of teachers and students, and having the leadership discipline to change approaches that are no longer delivering results.

At @oneononelms, these conversations are shaping how we diagnose learning gaps, connect students and teachers across schools, and rethink assessment in an age when AI can generate an answer, but cannot replace genuine understanding.

Latin America and the Caribbean do not need imported solutions copied without context. We need globally informed ideas, designed around our people and executed within the realities of our own education systems.

Global insight. Local context. Regional execution.

The work continues!
