It would take far more than a month to honor the contributions of queer and transgender New Yorkers.
From the Cercle Hermaphroditos in 1895, the first trans advocacy group in the United States, to the drag balls of the Harlem Renaissance, to the Stonewall uprising, to the Lesbian Herstory Archives, to ACT UP!, founded in 1987 as queer people fought for their lives while the Reagan administration looked away, New York City's history has long been shaped by queer and trans New Yorkers.
To all our queer and trans neighbors: you deserve a City where you can afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.
Happy Pride, New York City.
most men are actually COWARDŠ when it comes to confronting their male friends about mistreating women. they value MALE APPROVAL more than women's SAFETY
keep calling me a misogynist or all sort of names I still won't care about israeli women, I still won't care about women who join a terrorist organization to kill children, women who rape, women who make fun of grieving mothers, women who support this genocide
You don’t have to support abortion. You’re allowed to feel uneasy about it. You can dislike it. You can wrestle with it. Those emotions are yours.
But if your real goal is fewer abortions, that starts with prevention.. comprehensive sex ed, affordable birth control, and healthcare that reduces unintended pregnancies.
What isn’t okay is shaming or dehumanizing someone for their decision. You don’t get to strip away someone’s rights because their choice makes you uncomfortable. Your personal feelings don’t override another person’s control over their own body.
You don’t have to agree with abortion.
You do have to respect a woman’s right to make that decision safely and legally.
This is happening in Poland right now.
A woman named Lela, a Georgian citizen living in Poland, is 15 weeks pregnant and hospitalized in Olsztyn.
She is vomiting blood. She cannot eat.
She is being fed intravenously.
She is physically collapsing.
And doctors are refusing to perform an abortion. Polish law technically allows termination of pregnancy when a woman's physical or mental health is at risk.
Yet doctors are hesitating while her condition worsens.
How close to death does a woman have to be before she is considered "sick enough"?
Forcing someone to continue a pregnancy while she is vomiting blood in a hospital bed is not "pro-life."
If you believe in bodily autonomy, this is your issue. If you believe in medical ethics, this is your issue. If you believe women are not incubators, this is your issue.
Because today it's Lela. Tomorrow it's someone else.
This is Linda Davis, a special education teacher who was killed in a car crash involving ICE agents
The agents didn’t render aid.
She was minutes from her school and bled to death in her car.
They didn’t offer aid to Renee Good or Alex Pretti either.
Say her name too.
