Transport Scotland has agreed to my request to immediately postpone the remaining overnight A75 closures.

Following serious concerns over safety on the A747 diversion route, including multiple HGV incidents, I raised the issue directly with Transport Scotland. I'm pleased they have acted quickly and will now undertake a review of how these essential maintenance works are delivered.

Yesterday I hosted a cross-party meeting with members of the Galloway Community Hospitals Action Group to discuss serious concerns about access to maternity and other healthcare services in Wigtownshire.

Joined by Carol Mochan MSP, Joe Fagan MSP and Laura Moodie MSP, we discussed concerns around maternity services, access to cancer treatment and the wider challenges of delivering healthcare in a large rural area.

As the Scottish Government's independent maternity review gets underway, it is vital that the voices of local families are heard loud and clear. People in Wigtownshire deserve access to safe, high-quality healthcare as close to home as possible.

I am grateful to everyone who attended and shared their experiences and expertise. We will continue to work together to press for improvements and ensure the needs of people in Wigtownshire are not overlooked.

was shocked and very saddened to learn of the tragic death of Richard Baines during yesterday's storm.

I have fond memories of Richard from our school days almost 45 years ago, when he lived in Senwick House, Borgue Even then, his passion, dedication and positive spirit were evident. Those qualities stayed with him throughout his life and touched the lives of so many people.

Richard was a remarkable gentleman and a good friend to many, always ready with a warm smile, a kind word and an infectious enthusiasm for life. He will be remembered with great affection by all who knew him.

He was also widely respected as a leading figure in horticulture, and his outstanding work at Logan Botanic Garden earned well-deserved national recognition. His expertise, commitment and achievements brought credit not only to his profession, but to Galloway as well.

On my visits to Logan, whether as MSP or with my family, his love of the place and his role as custodian was always so very clear.

My heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Liz, and to all his family, friends and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.

Food price caps are a ridiculous idea.

The SNP had no idea how they’d work when they announced them (during the election campaign…), they’d no idea of what unintended consequences might be, and they still have no idea on these now.

But they did gave them a great opportunity to pick a fight with Westminster, to point fingers at businesses and to divert attention from their long list of other failures.
