@WarMonitor3 I’m 45 and from the UK. The change since my 20s - even my mid-30s - has been profound. Maybe I’m just getting older and this is the universal experience everyone has when the years build up? Regardless, it feels like no one is on charge of the ship in Europe.
@sciencegirl 1). Hangovers - don't ever go there as it takes 2 to 3 days to fully recover. 2). Comparison - at 40 you'll have lived through a couple more decades worth of societal changes, so I think you compare a lot to how things used to be.
@DevonTheDude530@S1apSh0es Probably a cultural thing but these were never a big thing in the UK outside of hospitals from what I can recall. Very niche. The whole paging culture was only something I ever came across on US TV shows back then.
@S1apSh0es Yes, I agree. I got my first mobile / cell phone at 18 (1998) just when SMS messaging took off in the UK. I lived my childhood and teenage years in a communication blackhole once outside the house - and then almost overnight (and at the end of the 90s)
things changed.
I think the old concepts of ageing are no more. There are no doubt a lot of young adults obsessing over their progress in the ‘game of life’ and how long they have left to ‘make it’. Yet my 82 year old Dad is on an Xbox playing games everyday and not giving a crap. It depends on your state of mind.
@Literariium In the age of digital distraction reading is very much like going the gym - you know it is beneficial but actually having the discipline to attend regularly is difficult. Yet you seldom regret it when you do.
@elonmusk Genuine question - Chinese capability when compared to the US may be overstated but would a Chinese AI be woke or just communist orientated. I don’t see the Chinese as being woke (from my minimal knowledge of Chinese society). Or are we assuming Western AI would remain separate.
@Milajoy If it's the same guy, he could have his 'kill kit' and extra clothing in the bag he is carrying (different jacket, ski mask etc.) and which he quickly changes into before entering. Or as he would have driven from there to Nancy's house he could well have changed in the car.
@MacrosTh3Black@iPaulCanada I've only ever watched the documentary version of the El Capitan climb and it had a frustratingly small amount of uninterrupted climbing footage. Directors choice or difficult to film? The 101 climb was more enjoyable in the sense that I could watch the entire thing.
@_falsi1ke To paraphrase Seinfeld - “Looking at Twitter/X is like looking at the sun. You don't stare at it. It's too risky. You get a sense of it and then you look away!”.
