My council is not really valuing libraries right now and it's hard to achieve much more than the bare minimum. But I love my role.
This new job pays more but would also have its own issues, as every council does. However, this library also achieves more in the community. Advice?
Knowing how public libraries and local government work, would you rather regret not going for a higher level job or regret getting the higher level job?
Would love to hear your thoughts!

So many wild patron stories this year.
The world has been changing and I'm certainly feeling the impact in my library service. Anyone else from #LibraryTwitter feel the same?
I'm not really active here anymore, but can anyone show me something that gives hope for a positive future? Like women being treated well or racism being undone in some example. I'm coming off antidepressants and it's been an awful day full of sexism and bad luck.
I think I will reach out to her again next week, but it is a fine line to tread because she trusted me to help her with something else and I just so happened to see these red flags while I was helping with her device. I don't want her to feel like her privacy has been invaded...
So hard as a librarian when you try to warn someone that they are likely being scammed but they don't want to hear it because they love the person. I tried a few different ways to speak to her about it and show her my perspective, and she just shut it down.
Me: Hi how are you?โบ
Patron: my back's sore, but that's nothing compared to my daughter
every problem you can think of, she has, she's got two cervixes and two uteruses so when she has her period she gets double the trouble, but if she has a baby 1 womb will be pushed aside so
One thing Iโd like to see moving forward is for established pros to stop viewing comic conventions as an opportunity to meet girls. If youโre invited as a guest, youโre there in a professional capacity. If you canโt behave accordingly, let that comped travel go to someone better.
So today is the first day my library has opened since we shut down in March. Since SA has been doing really well, patrons have said we shouldn't have closed at all, but it doesn't work that way. Still can't be complacent. We have a lot of restrictions and rules in place.
