How sad on this October day
To see our hedges shorn away
Small creatures would have liked to eat,
The hawthorn berries, rose hips sweet,
Blackberries and nuts and sloes,
But through the blades the banquet goes,
Won’t somebody heed our words,
And leave the berries for the birds.
A different #Dartmoor#woodland perspective. The most fitting analogy I can give is a #Rugby one for a scrum. Find a tree, touch, pause and engage. There’s so much going on when you spend a bit more time looking closely...
Battered, faded, but still the first one I’ve seen this year. Painted Lady #Butterfly, landed on some buddleia whilst we set up for #chagfordshow#Dartmoor
@JWentomologist Just one of many reasons we’re asked and ask to keep dogs on leads. Amazing picture and a wonderful wonderful bird. Nothing quite like the sound of a Nightjar at Dusk
Well, here's a little surprise - a pygmy shrew spotted foraging on the lawn. The daisy behind gives an idea of its tiny size! Apparently they need to eat more than their bodyweight each day to survive #Dartmoor@Mammal_Society @DevonMammalGrp @DevonWildlife@dartmoornpa
@OnlyInDevon Wow! I never knew that...
Here’s to the 3 hill forts in the Teign Valley! #Dartmoor And the recently departed ponies that carried out #conservation grazing on the site. #hillfortswednesday
@JWentomologist That should be made criminal! Why oh why are we so obsessed with ‘tidiness’ all I here every weekend is lawn mowers and just despair of the degradation of our verges.
