⚠️ Beavers in England are at risk ⚠️ Yesterday, UK Gov reneged on their commitment to give them legal protection. This is yet another broken promise. RT to join us in letting @VictoriaPrentis@DefraGovUK know that it’s not good enough. (1/4) https://t.co/gZtC82RSli
The Blue Ground Beetle has large protruding jaws so it can capture slugs and suck out their insides! It is estimated that Dartmoor represents over 80% of the BGB population in the UK.

Some hoverflies, like this Scaeva selenitica, migrate thousands of km south through Europe each Autumn.
Research from Rich in our lab (@MigGenomics) suggests that they actually use the sun as a compass - recalculating their heading throughout the day!!
Incredible animals.
@kcumbre1 @DevonWildlife@dartmoornpa Hah! Sorry Dave, I didn't recognise you operating under that "kcumbre" alias! Glad you're still enjoying Emsworthy, CKH etc! Cheers - Andrew
New blog: Emsworthy Mire Revisited
"It's a beautiful face. It's a very frustrated Stoat. It's trying to catch a Wren but the Wrens are too fast for it." https://t.co/GOWvKUOt5Q
@dg_dg_dg_dg_dg Belated reaction! DWT has had no records of willow tits at Emsworthy Mire since taking over the site in 2012...let us know if you ever find one!
Lovely to spend an hour or so at @DevonWildlife Emsworthy reserve this morning, with some lovely company. Rowan trees looking amazingly burdened with berries.
@exeterbirder@exebirding Hello Dave, I've only just seen these photos. Two pairs of pied flycatchers bred at Emsworthy this year, the first since DWT took over the site in 2012. One pair in a nestbox, one in a natural hole, both at north end of reserve. Big surprise!
@kcumbre1 @DevonWildlife@dartmoornpa Hello kcumbre. These are great. Do you keep species lists of sightings from Emsworthy (and/or other DWT sites)? If so I'd be very interested to see them. (Re your post from 20th May - the bog hoverfly wasn't at Emsworthy by any chance, was it? Excellent shot, wherever it was.)
Meet the wasp spider! This incredible creature was found at out Lower East Lounston nature reserve and the carefully wrapped parcel beneath it is, in fact, a grasshopper! Have you spotted any sensational spiders? Share your photos with us!
