@Kojo_870@Sarforo198@Citi973 No. This is fundamentally a moral and social issue.
That's why I included education as part of the solution. A determined child who wants to access adult content will likely find a way to bypass ID verification.
Mr. Rager, he cited UK as an example, but the policy has not worked there.
Do you honestly believe adults will be comfortable using their IDs to inform the government that they are accessing adult content? Many people would simply use VPNs or other methods to avoid such tracking.
The only practical solution is to ensure that devices given to children have parental controls enabled.
For government-issued devices, such as SHS tablets, those parental controls can be managed by the ministry.
We should also educate children about the dangers of harmful content, just as we educate them about teenage pregnancy. We don't address teenage pregnancy by requiring a digital ID to access our genitals.
Sexual content is everywhere from social media platforms to WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, and other online spaces. Are you going to require ID verification for all of these platforms as well?

Also, @Citi973, you have to understand that the same technology used to block pornographic websites can also be weaponized to block other sites, such as news and social media platforms.
Also, the minister has said before that if he had the power, he would have shut down social media.
The idea you're advocating won't solve the problem of children accessing certain websites. Furthermore, people can easily mask their IP addresses with a VPN.
You cited the UK as an example, but the approach didn't work there, which is why lawmakers are now proposing this legislation.

@Citi973@benkoku
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has proposed a policy requiring individuals to present a National ID card or driver’s licence before accessing pornographic websites, as part of efforts to protect minors online.
Speaking at the 4th Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Values and Sovereignty, he called for stronger safeguards against harmful online influences.

There’s nothing sensible in that NITA bill. Ghana's tech sector grew from GH¢4.4 billion to GH¢21 billion in six years without this bill. You're not fixing a broken system. You're putting a padlock on a door that was wide open and working. Let’s be honest!
Until its publicly confirmed when its in patliament or the v5 is released you cant give anyone assurance based on his media comment.
Did you hear the minister say that he has responded to everyone who submitted comments on the bills? Interestingly, no one in the tech community appears to have received any acknowledgment that their input was received.
But vim we wait to see.
Yesterday, a stakeholder confirmed she has not seen any of the alleged newer drafts. The engagements have been verbal.
So we are discussing a bill that affects everyone, but the people being consulted have not even been given the updated text to read for themselves?
This is not how serious countries make law. We deserve better.
For those who don’t know @voidrakh, he is one of the OGs in cybersecurity in Ghana and a genius in the field.
I met him around 2010, and by then he had already spent years in the field and was contributing to OpenBSD, one of the most secure operating systems. He had even built a game in assembly with graphics, which was very rare at the time and still is even now.
We spent hours talking about assembly, reverse engineering, and security in general. He is incredibly deep in these areas and many more.
His skills aren’t something you can quantify with certifications, and this blanket licensing with no transparent vetting or clear standards needs to stop.

Effective immediately, we are discontinuing all IT and Cybersecurity services in Ghana.
After careful evaluation, I have concluded that the increasingly burdensome over-regulation of the IT/ICT sector has made it unsustainable and unprofitable to continue operating technology services in the country. This was not an easy decision, but a necessary one for the long-term viability of the business.
Moving forward, Tactical Intelligence Security will focus our Ghana operations exclusively on defense supply and physical security guard services. All cybersecurity and IT services have been relocated to more favorable jurisdictions.
I want to personally thank our clients, partners, and team members who have supported us over the years. We will be reaching out directly to all active clients to ensure a smooth transition.
New inquiries for IT and cybersecurity services in Ghana will no longer be accepted.
We remain fully committed to excellence in the services we continue to provide.
