In 1970, the federal government gave colleges and universities $3.43B. In 2021, it was $174.9B…a 4,999% increase. R&D contributions went up 1,854%, so this money wasn’t for that. Despite this, tuition has soared faster than overall inflation. As Milton Friedman said, the more the government is involved in something, the higher the price and the lower the quality.
