How should funding for the arts be split between London and the rest of the country under Levelling Up?
A London cross-party group led by MP @neill_bob today called funding cuts "calamitous". I spoke to @proteindance & @ace_national - more on @BBCLondonNews next
Freelancers!
It's the time we're all freaking out about self assessment tax returns, which means it's time for my now annual (and updated) thread about how it's not actually that bad. Here are some things that should help:
@jamesmackblack Brilliant James. I recently enjoyed a show where a bat elegantly dived and darted round the stage and auditorium for the duration of the show. It cleverly swooped FOH into the post-show reception before exiting via the main entrance. Wonder if it made the show report too?
Wow - superb performance tonight. These young performers bring vitality, power and fresh vulnerability to Bausch’s choreography created nearly 50 years ago. The beautifully lit bat 🦇 darting around the auditorium and flys was an unexpected 25th cast member.
We’re pinching ourselves - The Rite of Spring is really here!
The first collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation, @EcoledesSables & Sadler’s Wells and we are SO excited ✨

London's structural inequalities action plan launches today. It was the last policy project I worked on for the GLA before I dived into fully freelance life a couple of months ago. Please take a look. Can you and your organisation pledge to proactively reduce inequality?
Long-standing, structural inequalities made many people’s experiences of COVID-19, and life afterwards, significantly worse.
Today, the London Recovery Board launches its action plan, setting out 14 actions organisations can take to address their deep-seated inequalities.
Brilliant hybrid event this afternoon with @FallenAngelsDT and @StoryhouseLive about the process of using recovery stories as inspiration for three short films. Questions: how did this creative process draw on lived experience? How did making work for screen differ from theatre?
Looking forward to another inspiring and insightful event from @FallenAngelsDT:
When The Art is Your Story: A Recovery Inclusive Approach to Dance on Tuesday 24 May (live stream & in person at Storyhouse, Chester.

A chapter closes today on City Hall at Tower Bridge as the GLA and @MayorofLondon moves to its new home at the Royal Docks. We’ll miss your iconic curves, amazing views & great Xmas party venue. Won’t miss the windowless meeting rooms, lift queues and 🐁. End of an era.
So excited to be working on this brilliant @DanceConsortium tour in Sept/Oct. Talented performers + resilient theatres + excited audiences = what it’s all about. Live theatre.
What a joy to see performers return to the stage and audiences to theatres. We can’t wait for you all to see The 7 Fingers’ Passagers #The7Fingers#BackOnStage#artsnews
