@RichieBrave So true. 14months from losing my husband. I caused my self so much extra pain worrying about other peoples opinions. Now I realise we are each on our own paths. My grief for my husband represents my love for him &the bond we will always have. I don’t need other to affirm that
I really think we need replace “people who look like me” politics with “people who are structurally positioned like me”. “Looks like me” alone obscures way too much about class, as well as access to opportunities and resources.
@Jackmorganator @PaulLomax @TrainsChris @NoJusticeMTG@GMB@OwenJones84 @cooraysmith I agree with you on that. Until last year we were a 1 car family (change of jobs) above convo aside I was observing the simplistic argument. Where I live (valleys area) it would be a long and mammoth task to get to this point. A sensationalist headline &minimal discussion time.
@GMB@OwenJones84 I agree that we need better public transport, but this debate only focused on rich and poor and completely missed the needs of a large portion of struggling working British (house sharing/working in separate locations included)
@GMB@Ella_M_Whelan I also know of many households where adult children can’t afford to move out of parents homes or where single people house share in order to afford accommodation, but again need separate cars to get to work.
@GMB@Ella_M_Whelan This debate focused too much on the extremes of rich and poor. There’s a large portion of Britain which would be middle (whether lower or upper) The majority of homes in my area rely on 2 incomes often with partners working in separate locations with poor public transport.
Well said @marcusryder . Language matters! The media have a huge responsibility in how they report about conflicts. It’s not OK to elevate some victims as more worthy of our sympathy because they are culturally more similar - as we’ve seen in multiple media reports on Ukraine
The two deadliest wars that went global, were on European grounds and by Europeans...
When we talk about "uncivilized,"
Let's not have selective memories..
We all have similar stories, some obviously deeply distressing involving sick and dying loved ones. Britain’s Prime Minister separated families for months on end, often in their darkest hours, but secretly ignored all those rules himself to party.
Just outrageous hypocrisy.
