the more time i spend in internet criticism spaces the more i am realizing that producing things that matter online is basically a zero-sum game. there is always enough room for more work, i truly only value the consideration of those who are contributing something of their own. you think this blog post is derivative? this trend in think-pieces played out or reductive? cool! write about it! be vulnerable! no more hiding behind self-obfuscating vagueposting or ad-hominem gestures towards cliche. i would so much more rather have five hundred earnest but flawed pieces of writing published by complete amateurs online than writing be regulated to grad students and whatever random pitches make it past the electric fence of major publication editors. start your own magazine! make a substack! this is what the internet is for and i am no longer letting people tear things down who aren't also building things of their own up in equal measure. you are either a constructive or a destructive force to the current cultural moment – if you truly feel the milieu is worth altering you need to take up the same mantle as everyone else and lead by example.
