It’s crazy to think about all the exclusion that happens during AAPI month in general. There’s rarely ever any grief for the culture that was lost from “americanization”, especially for the darker skinned asians (including mixed asians) who were heavily impacted by colonialism

@Pinks_on_pink I don’t think that a lot of asians realize that they can be racist as well. There’s this belief (that was only intensified with social media) that just because they’re NOT white, anything they say—regardless of how hurtful it is—is ‘just fine’

@pinkmonstas Yeah 😭. I’m in this group for AAPI and I’ve noticed that despite their Filipino+Indonesian majority, they rarely have anything for pacific islanders. I don’t think they’ve even covered any of the pacific islands except for the Philippines (and that’s done pretty rarely)

It’s always about respecting other’s cultures and acknowledging that they exist, and that’s great, but what about the damage that was permanently done to these people? Are we truly making the attempt to embrace each other if we only choose to embrace this sugarcoated fantasy?
