UEFA said that FIFA, by making an exception with Balogun and doing so in the middle of the World Cup, has put the integrity of the game "at stake" and set a precedent.

"Football, like any other sports, relies on rules, which are the basis for fair, honest and transparent competition," the UEFA statement added.

"Sometimes rules are open to interpretation. In this case not. A minimum automatic suspension of one match following a red card is not a discretionary option and does not require the decision of a competent body to be enacted.”

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: The Royal Belgian Football Association has released a statement in regard to Folarin Balogun being able to play against them.

"The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time)."

"FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction."

"However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup."

"Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5:

"If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed."

But at one point games will make into streaming services like Amazon or Netflix and companies will decide if you can play a game or not [...] At this point I won't have anything of my own [...] the data will be somewhere in a company and I will have the right to access it or not depending on how much this data tap is opened.

The fact that the initial data is not in my possession but is somewhere held by a private company means that I will always have that risk that for any reason, whether commercial or political, the company could prevent access to that data and therefore I will no longer be able to see that film, I will no longer be able to play that game.

It’s now clear that, after announcing the end of physical game discs in 2028, Sony wants a fully digital future where you don’t own what you buy, you just simply rent a license which can be removed when they want

A few days ago, Sony removed hundreds of movies from people’s accounts even though they had paid for them. This is what will happen one day to your games, they will remove whatever they want.

Of course, I don’t expect games to become cheaper. Even though they will save money by no longer producing discs, cases, printed materials, or shipping physical copies, they will charge the same or more.

This is the future they’re want, one where you own nothing and be happy. Physical games will be soon become a thing of the past.

Keep all your physical games, don’t sell them, they might become real treasures one day.
