Do you know how much CO exposure you are getting in the firehouse and at calls and even when training? It’s much more than you think. 

Firefighters have been killed and injured by carbon monoxide during medical calls, fire suppression, overhaul, surf rescue training, wildfire operations, confined space operations, and live fire training. What can you do to reduce your risk of CO poisoning?

The National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation partnered to create a new module, Preventing Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in the Fire and Rescue Services, on the Fire Hero Learning Network. This module teaches you how to protect yourself from CO, including the surprising way carbon monoxide alarms work, where your exposure risks are as a firefighter, how to recognize carbon monoxide poisoning, and — most importantly — what you can do right now to lower your risk of exposure.
