HPFFA’s bylaws require that all meetings and decisions be recorded. This tradition protects our history, safeguards transparency, and ensures future generations of firefighters know the fights we won.

Congratulations to newly retired Captain Scott Burke, who stopped by the Union Hall to receive a certificate recognizing his 33 years of service.
HPFFA provides these certificates to retiring active members, and we would love to showcase more of them. When you retire, stop by the Union Hall to pick up your certificate, and, if you are willing, we will snap a photo to help celebrate your service.

Every Independence Day, firefighters respond to preventable fires and injuries caused by fireworks.
Help us keep the holiday safe for everyone by leaving the fireworks to the professionals.

🚒 Fire departments across North America are waiting years – not months – for new fire trucks while costs continue to soar.
Fire fighters are fighting back.
The IAFF is working to document the full impact of this crisis & hold manufacturers accountable.https://t.co/SO64ftJSoK

Enrique “Mico” Guerra — known to nearly everyone simply as Mico — has dedicated more than three decades to serving Houston and his fellow firefighters.
Since joining HFD in 1994, Mico has worked at Stations 58 and 31, earned promotions to Engineer Operator and Communications Captain, and now serves on the Emergency Communications Special Events Team — helping coordinate the Command Post during major city events, from hurricanes to parades.
A proud advocate for representation and unity, Mico has served on the Hispanic Caucus Board since 1998 and has led as Chairman since 2020. In 2024, he brought that same commitment to the HPFFA Board as a Trustee.
Away from the job, Mico enjoys traveling and going on cruises with his girlfriend, Gloria.
Drop a 🔥 to thank Mico for his service, leadership, and 30 years of dedication to Houston’s firefighters.

Houston firefighters at work: 20 rescues, one person transported to the hospital, a firefighter treated at the scene and a person undergoing questioning by arson investigators after an apartment fire near NRG Stadium this morning.
Three wildland fire fighters died yesterday battling the Snyder Fire in Colorado.
They were doing the dangerous work fire fighters do: protecting communities in unforgiving conditions.
The IAFF extends our condolences to their families, friends, and crews.
Firefighters can carry a mental and emotional toll long after the call is over. PTSD is real. Support matters. Asking for help is strength.
If you know a brother or sister who needs help, please encourage them to reach out. We have options available, and we will cover the expenses.

“Firefighters are not asking Houston to ignore fiscal reality. We are asking Houston to recognize operational reality.”
In guest commentary published in today’s Houston Chronicle, HPFFA President Patrick M. “Marty” Lancton calls for a phased plan to expand Houston’s fire and EMS capacity as emergency demand continues to rise.
Monday’s massive recycling fire offered a vivid example of how quickly one major emergency can consume HFD resources while routine 911 calls continue across the city.
