Even a small bag of rubbish can create enough smoke to fill a whole close / common stair. Items left in a common stair / close are often deliberately set on fire. Keep it clear.

I joined Highlands & Islands Fire Brigade in 2000 as an auxiliary firefighter (we were later upgraded to RDS).
At that time it was the busiest auxiliary station in the UK but it also lacked any running water or toilets! We had to wash our BA sets in buckets!
