Never underestimate the power of a first generation student. They are built different and will go very far when given an opportunity. There is a lot more packed into a single person than the average applicant.

Mentors who were comfortable in their own skin & unapologetic in their mission to advance equity gave me courage to pay it forward. As a #firstgen physician, I know how it transformed me. I educate to offer trainees the same. #RepresentationMatters@FirstGenMD#MedEd
Huge thank you to @FirstGenMD, @OhioStateNeuro, and the OSU Neurology #DEI Committee faculty and residents who hosted a truly fantastic virtual mentorship event for our members Tuesday evening! We learned so much and had such a fantastic time! #FirstGen#1stGen#FirstGenDocs

One of the greatest reminders of why becoming a doctor was worth the stress and tears: hearing a Mexican mom say "I'm glad my doctor speaks a language that I can understand." #RepresentationMatters#MedTwitter#SiSePuede#firstgen
Im trembling as I share that your boi is heading to Harvard Med for Summer Research ‘22! 😭 Me, from statistically being more likely to drop out of high school, 5x MCAT Retaker, 3x Med school applicant, to now most recognize institution. “From Hood to Harvard” #CauseGod#FirstGen
#MedStudentTwitter – what were some of the expected and unexpected expenses that you encountered during your fourth year and the transition to residency? Things like Step 2 CK registration, ERAS expenses, moving costs, etc… @olsonplanner@Inside_TheMatch
I remember a mentor I had told me I’ll never get into medical school. During my residency interview today the PD told me “You have the most outstanding LORs I have ever seen and everyone said you’re one of the best med students they’ve worked with” 🥺I cried- after my interview
Y’ALL: lemme tell you about all the places that rejected me for residency… then invited me for fellowship… & now invite me to give Grand Rounds & Visiting Professorships! 💪🏽
Remember: #Match2022 rejections aren’t personal. You’re #StillDope!! And delayed is not denied. ✊🏽
From barely a 3.0 Undergrad GPA and <10 percentile MCAT, to induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. Life’s a trip, and I’m super humbled that I get to be a part of it. #OrthoTwitter#MedTwitter
USMLE scores have little to do with the kind of doctor you will ultimately become. These tests do not assess listening skills, empathy, kindness or compassion. Plenty of doctors with low scores are beloved by their patients.
