Optometrist, Carnivore & Gym Snob (@CresseySP). Married to @EricCressey for the best 10 years of his life. Mommy to L/A/T & 2nd Mom to 100s of baseball players!
I often remind our young athletes and parents that the overwhelming majority of our clients won't go on to make life-changing money playing professional sports, but that all of them can learn a ton of life lessons in the gym and leverage their time at @CresseySP to foster a favorable long-term relationship with exercise. I'm not sure there's a better CSP client example than @SahilBloom, who was a #CSPFamily OG; he was there the day we opened in 2007.
From day one, he was insanely locked in with his preparation. Every rep was tracked, and at a time when he could have been content to be the big fish in a small pond of Massachusetts baseball players, he didn't hesitate to jump into the deep end, training alongside pro players all through high school and college. He went on to pitch for (and captain) the Stanford Baseball team and earned his master's degree, then moved on to private equity and started his own venture capital fund on top of a collection of other shrewd investments. Sahil became a NY Times Best-Seller for "The 5 Types of Wealth," and recently started Wild Roman, a natural skincare company that's turning a lot of heads for all the right reasons. And, he's in heavy demand for speaking engagements.
All the while, Sahil still trains hard and regularly. I've often said that exercise is somewhat of a "North Star" for a lot of spouses/parents, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders. It teaches you to "embrace the suck" and work through challenging things. And, it's there for blowing off steam, celebrating when you're feeling good, and also kicking out endorphins to make you creative and fun to be around; the trickle-down effect of exercise is as much mental as it is physical.
Damn proud of you, buddy. Thanks for the morning lift - and 19 years of friendship.
The terms “stability” and “balance” are thrown around a lot, but they’re often covered in very vague terms – and with hastily thrown together exercise progressions. Today, I cover some things you need to appreciate to be more informed in this regard. https://t.co/wzjOFmO0Rw
With pitching injuries, many people like to chase complex physics/sports medicine solutions. Instead, they should start with rigorous adherence to basic protective guidelines. >100 IP/yr = 350% increase in risk of youth arm injury. Anyone who can count can prevent injuries.
Tip of the iceberg! @NYYGoBLue has done so much for so many across amateur and pro baseball in the Northeast. One of the absolute best people in the game.
Great stuff from Ronnie on the awesome work Jordan Walker did at @CresseySP this offseason to remake his swing, approach, and body. Lots of hard work and persistence rewarded!

“He would pop-quiz me. What are you gonna do to the Braves lineup? The Mets lineup?’
“And I would say it, and he’d go, ‘Nope, wrong. This is how you’re gonna do it.'"

A big reason early sports specialization fails athletes long-term is the heightened focus on process over outcomes. One of the benefits of having an actual offseason is that it affords athletes chances to fail with no consequences; that’s how you learn.

The convex-concave relationship between the scapula and rib cage is an important upper body functional anatomy consideration. As I show today, it can impact the exercises you prescribe and how you coach athletes with different resting postures.

Time and time again, we see a very linear relationship between body weight and pitching velocity, particularly in amateur players. In other words, the most important piece of equipment in a pitcher's velocity program is usually a fork.
