Our implementation partner, @doWorkorg is celebrating Bright Futures all week virtually! Check out the video on Earthquake Response to learn about the support our teams provided to our collection network in #Haiti following the earthquake in August. https://t.co/CPIPZg6JUB
At First Mile - this is why we exist. To support brands in solving these problems, drive investment and opportunity into informal waste collection communities, and connect brands with the material supply they need - while ensuring human rights are respected at every level.
“The used plastic bottles best known for clogging the world’s oceans are in surprisingly short supply as consumer brands compete to meet recycling targets.” - https://t.co/OGXbtTYVQZ
Let’s be clear. There’s no shortage of plastic waste in the world.
Informal waste collection networks - despite containing some of the best expertise around waste management in the world, can also often contain human rights issues - child labor, forced labor, predatory lending, making these sources “high risk” and therefor avoided.
Informal waste collectors are responsible for 60% of global recycling. We imagine a world where they have safe working conditions, inclusion, & dignified livelihoods. @nxtwaveplastics has released a #socialresponsibility framework for Ocean Bound Plastics: https://t.co/RLaMLjgDdF
It's been a long week filled with emotions. After our local Haitian team touched down on the ground in Les Cayes, the epicenter of the Haiti earthquake, they have been able to locate more than 500 collectors and their family members and counting.
Meal delivery in La Creole, Les Cayes 🇭🇹 This community in southern Haiti was impacted by the 7.2 earthquake nearly a week ago. Many houses have sustained damage—some families have since been staying outside. We brought fresh meals with our partners @doWorkorg & @FirstMileImpact.

@doWorkorg Nearly everyone we met with has seen their homes destroyed, so temporary shelter, treatment of injuries, and access to food/hot meals are priorities. https://t.co/fttoTgEWfi - funds will drive the work on these efforts led by our Haitian team. #haitiearthquake
Yesterday, our team set out on foot, tracking down collectors we haven’t been able to reach yet to assess their needs after the #earthquake Our team has been the first point of help/aid for many of the people we meet with. Support efforts here: https://t.co/fttoTgEWfi @doWorkorg
Please share with your networks! The OPLN is asking you to help our partners at @FirstMileImpact and @doWorkorg with securing supplies to assist their teams and families in the response to #Haitiearthquake2021.
Despite “sleeping” under a tarp through tropical storm Grace last night, our team has ginger tea & is already up and at work today delivering earthquake response to our collection network in Les Cayes. https://t.co/3vEgyTEWFi @doWorkorg@Richardsoncycle#Haiti#haitiearthquake
Heavy rain and strong winds from Tropical Storm Grace whipped through Haiti — just 2 days after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake battered the country, leaving tens of thousands homeless.

This afternoon we sent a team with @doWorkorg from Port-au-Prince to Les Cayes to manage earthquake response efforts. We are beyond proud to call these men and women our colleagues. Support their efforts here: https://t.co/fttoTgEWfi #Haiti#earthquake#Haitiearthquake2021
Lots of people saying lots of stuff about where to donate, who to trust, who not to trust, to help the response to the Haitian earthquake. The comments conversation tends to turn into a discussion on who’s corrupt and who’s not, which is probably satisfying…
