Lab of Dr. Claudia Fischbach @CornellBME. We apply engineering principles to understand how tissue microenvironments influence cancer. Tweets by lab members.
Preprint alert! Excited to share our new manuscript from @CornellBME@GarrettBeeghly examining how the size of fat cells, or adipocytes, impacts breast cancer risk. We found that larger adipocytes promote aggressive behavior in tumor cells. 1/5 https://t.co/nA7626d6c9
As an undergraduate researcher, Yiwei Yan ’25 studied how breast cancer cell growth is regulated in bone by investigating how bone mineral content and tumor-secreted factors influence the growth of mesenchymal stem cells.
Hypertrophic adipocytes increase extracellular vesicle-mediated lipid release and reprogram breast cancer cell metabolism https://t.co/kxyYAfHTBh #biorxiv_cellbio
Ultimately, our findings suggest that larger adipocytes are a distinct cell population within adipose tissue and increase lipid transfer to invading cancer cells. As a result, we propose that adipocyte size could be a valuable prognostic biomarker for breast cancer patients. 5/5

In a published cohort of mastectomy patients, we found that average adipocyte size predicted dyslipidemia and circulating triglycerides more than BMI. These results suggest that altered lipid release by larger adipocytes may also have implications for whole body metabolism. 4/5
Thanks @FischbachLab for accepting our invitation and giving an excellent keynote to kick off the 2025 GRS Physical Science of Cancer 🙏! #POC_GRC_2025

Feeling extremely grateful to have completed my PhD with so much support from @CornellBME, @FischbachLab, and my fantastic advisor. I can't imagine the past six years anywhere else. Excited to see what is next! #PhDone
Congratulations @GarrettBeeghly on a fantastic defense and significantly advancing our understanding of adipocytes and their role in cancer! Well done Dr. B! @CornellBME@FischbachLab
Going to the @BMESociety Annual Meeting in Baltimore next week? Check out these @FischbachLab presentations and posters! And stop by the @CornellBME booth to learn more about our graduate MEng and PhD programs
Thank you to @LammerdingLab and @FischbachLab bakers and everyone else who made the fundraiser our most successful year yet! We raised over $1100 for @CancerResource. Make sure to check out all the amazing work the CRC does at https://t.co/s96A1V4WHb
Hungry and on the Cornell campus? Enjoy some delicious cookies and other baked goods to raise funds for the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. And a big shoutout to all the lab members for their amazing baking skills!
Made chocolate caneles for our annual @CancerCornell bake sale fundraiser for the @CancerResource Center of the Finger Lakes! Stop by Weill Hall today for some freshly baked goods and to support a great cause 👨🍳
We got to enjoy the beautiful weather over the weekend as part of the inaugural @FischbachLab wine tour. There’s lots to do and see in the Finger Lakes besides science! Apple picking is up next…
