One of the most positively influential thinkers of the literacy and education worlds has passed away. Kylene Beers was courageous, compassionate, insightful, collegial, and scholarly. I was able to talk with her occasionally, amazed at her humanity and wit each time. Her books line my shelves, her words make up significant portions of my literacy DNA. She will be treasured for decades and decades.
