@StephenD_ They know shared ownership is a one sided money making scheme so the people who provide them will never lose out. Compounding interest mortgages require specialist legal advice yet compounding rent schemes don’t?!
🆕 The Housing Select Committee has published its report on homeownership affordability.
It concludes:
👉 "Shared ownership (...) is not a long-term affordable option for many of the buyers to whom it is marketed."

SHAC in the News - Thx @guardian for highlighting that in 20% of council areas across England not a single social home was built in the last two years.

SHAC's comment that the housing emergency is now actively exploited by private landlords and housing associations who convert traditional homes into temp accomm to lease to councils at extortionate rents. We need real change.
“We need a fundamentally different approach to the provision of public housing. This demands massive, sustained investment in council housing.” @mtpennycook and @SteveReedMP need to stop blind support for landlords & developers and start listening to communities.
Universal credit migration and the death of David Panther
In the move to Universal Credit he had to find £500 a month, for his care package
He repeatedly asked for an invoice to clear debts a year after move to Universal Credit
Another needless death from the hands of Gov

@tomcopley When you know full well the misery that L&Q cause their tenants, and how badly they maintain their existing housing stock, what on earth are you doing giving them £millions of public money so they can carry on exactly as they are? And you wonder why nobody votes Labour any more.
@ChelseaBridgeWh@ResourcesShared@insidehousing And they are also tenants. My point is that a shared ownership lease (or tenancy agreement) is an order of magnitude different to regular leases.
@ResourcesShared@ChelseaBridgeWh@insidehousing The thing is, shared ownership is different to leasehold. It’s not defined in law, it’s a form of social housing & it benefits from public funding, & it can be subject to complex lease agreements. Leasehold doesn’t have any of those things. Bundling the two together is a mistake

A man with *STAGE 4* Incurable Brain Tumour is being forced to move onto the 15th floor of a Tower block or make himself intentionally homeless.
He has mobility issues from chemo and his doctors have previously written to Thurrock council.
@tomcopley@MayorofLondon We don’t have a problem with availability. What we do have a problem with is affordability and suitability. As such, simply throwing up more tower blocks for institutional landlords is not the policy flex you suggest.
@tomcopley@SadiqKhan@MayorofLondon These figures are meaningless without context - how many private properties have been built, how many flats vs houses, are you including shared ownership in this?
@perayahmet Speaking as a Haringey resident - you lost @perayahmet , and instead of being such an ungracious loser and carping on about the Green Party, maybe you could show some dignity. Take some time to reflect on *why* you lost, and what you would need to do differently to win next time.
@LostInSW19@mtpennycook You’re missing the duplicity, and the knowledge that the current administration has zero interest in fixing existing problems. Factor in both of these things and @mtpennycook pronouncements start to make sense.
@MattLismore Anyone who expected Keir Starmer’s Labour to keep their promises re leasehold wasn’t paying attention. They are a confederacy of liars with a nasty authoritarian streak who only wanted to be in power for the sake of being in power.
