At FixMySpend, we share practical money stories, money tips, interesting financial debates and ideas that make you think differently about money.
@cleophas21849 Exactly. I don’t think money is the source of happiness, but financial security can remove a lot of unnecessary stress and give people more freedom to actually enjoy their lives.
“Money can't buy happiness.”
I think that statement is too simple.
Money can't buy genuine love.
It can't guarantee that you'll be happy.
It can't give you peace of mind.
But let's look at it another way:
Can money remove a lot of the things that make people miserable?
Can it pay your rent?
Can it help you handle an emergency without borrowing?
Can it give you access to proper healthcare?
Can it give you the option to take a break when you're exhausted?
Can it allow you to travel and spend more time with people you love?
Can it give you the freedom to choose work because you want to do it, rather than because missing one salary will destroy your finances?
Sometimes people aren't unhappy because they don't know how to enjoy life.
They're unhappy because they're constantly worried about money.
So maybe money doesn't directly buy happiness.
But having enough money can remove some of the problems standing between you and happiness.
What do you think?
Careless spending turns opportunities into regrets.
That money you spent without thinking could have been:
Saved for an emergency.
Used to learn a valuable skill.
Invested to earn
Used to start something.
Or simply kept until a better opportunity came.
Not every expense is bad.
But when you spend without thinking about what else the money could do for you, you may only realize its value after it's gone.
I understand his logic.
But I think there’s a problem with this mindset:
Earning more and saving aren’t supposed to be either/or.
If your income increases but your lifestyle consumes everything you earn, you can make more money and still have nothing to show for it.
Enjoy your money. Live well.
But keep something aside that your future self can build on. Savings isn't entirely to deprive yourself of something but rather to build upon.
I have a friend who doesn’t like saving in any form.
In his words;
“I’d rather work on earning more money and spending comfortably than depriving myself of many things I want because I want to “save”. What’s the point of saving money when you are literally making your life inconvenient? Isn’t that madness?”
@GodwinChukqh5x That’s a big part of it. Savings isn’t just about becoming rich; sometimes it’s simply about giving yourself financial options when life doesn’t go according to plan.
@OgadimmaCht It’s not about saving every kobo and making yourself miserable. It’s about making sure your present lifestyle doesn’t consume everything your future self could have used.
@cleophas21849 The goal isn’t to feel guilty every time you spend money. It’s to know what your money needs to do first, then enjoy what’s genuinely available for you to spend.

@AsogwaJude7 The real advantage is when what you inherit keeps producing instead of simply getting consumed. One generation can make life financially easier for the next.
HOW DO I BECOME RICH WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING?
"Own assets!"
That’s the part people don't talk about enough.
There are people in Nigeria whose parents already bought them land, houses, shares and businesses.
Their bills are covered.
Their investments keep paying them.
Their money keeps making more money.
They don't necessarily have to work a 9–5 to survive.
I know someone whose family had investments managed for him from a young age. Some of those investments grew massively over the years.
Now imagine starting life with assets already working for you.
While someone else is working every day just to earn income, your own money is quietly compounding.
Sometimes, the biggest financial advantage isn't how much you earn. It's what you already own.

@GodwinChukqh5x That’s the part many people miss. Income tells you what is coming in, but your assets tell you what you’re building and what can keep working for you.
@OgadimmaCht That’s why wealth isn’t only about how hard someone works. Ownership, timing, and what your family was able to pass down can completely change the starting point.
@cleophas21849 Exactly. Being born into an advantage isn’t something to feel guilty about. The bigger challenge is knowing how to manage it well enough that the advantage doesn’t disappear with the next generation.
