Politicians need to get round the table and agree measures that will meet our statutory targets on child poverty.
We want to work across party lines to cut child poverty in half in 3 years. Let’s make it happen.
The first thing I did as Scottish Labour leader was write to John Swinney calling to establish a cross party commission to meet Scotland’s child poverty targets.
Tomorrow I will be making the case to the First Minister directly.

"It blew the doors off here in Liverpool."
Scottish Secretary, Douglas Alexander, tells #Newsnight that when Andy Burnham spoke about the day his father died, it was "the single most powerful emotive passage of the entire speech."
‘A country of solidarity, not separation… that’s the Britain that my dad represented.’
Andy Burnham fought back tears at the Labour Party Conference while speaking about his father who died two weeks ago.
What does Labour conference mean for Scotland? Action on bills, good jobs, and investment in shipbuilding and our energy grid. Here’s my two-minute roundup 👇
Rejecting the rhetoric and the reality of division involves more than words. It’s about delivering change that people can touch, can see, and can feel in their daily lives. That is what the work of this Labour Government is all about.
Great to be joined by so many @ScottishLabour colleagues here in Liverpool at the @UKLabour conference. Together we’re speaking up for Scotland and - at the first conference with @andyburnam as our Prime Minister - making the case for hope in our national life.
Scottish Labour’s task is to make the case for solidarity not separation, deliver social justice, and bring back hope - with @MichaelJMarra leading our party.
A pleasure to address @UKLabour conference.
It is shameful that the SNP council in Glasgow is threatening to ram through fire and rehire before it is made illegal by our UK Labour Government.
Join statement from @ScottishLabour MPs and MSPs👇
“Grotesque chaos” as Neil Kinnock once described it.
It’s a reminder to all of us in the Labour movement - that the SNP may claim to be fellow progressives but this is what an SNP council has done months before the UK Labour Government’s ban on fire & rehire comes into force.
23,000 council workers now face fire and rehire.
Labour warned this could happen. We voted to rule it out and called for ACAS to help reach an agreement.
The SNP and Greens voted to press ahead.
They must take responsibility, rule out dismissal and get back round the table.
24,000 Glasgow council workers now face the biggest fire and rehire in British history.
SNP and Green councillors kept that option on the table. They have now ended in the grotesque chaos of the council threatening to sack its own workforce just weeks before Labour’s UK-wide ban takes effect.
You cannot play politics with people’s jobs and people’s services. This is brinkmanship over the workers who keep this city running.
Rule out dismissal. Get back round the table with all three unions.
