The US produces diesel out of heavy crude of wich 60% comes from Canada, the deficit reason. The oil companies produce more diesel then the US market needs so DBD, Drill Baby Drill, could limit the export but he won't because he would lose all heavy contributions from his oil buddies.

Furthermore Venezuelian crude is too heavy to create gas out of it. Only diesel, jet fuel, heating fuel or heavier can be produced out of it.
60% of the imported heavy crude comes from Canada which the US gets with a discount. Without that the US would have a major problem. Given that DBD, Drill Baby Drill, has fucked up the relations with Canada they are heavily investing in pipelines to export their crude elsewhere.

Domestic US diesel production consistently exceeds domestic consumption which was about 1.42 billion barrels in 2025 and exported.
The US gets 60% of the heavy crude with a discount, 90$ per barrel and has to import the rest from other suppliers where due to DBD the price went up 1.5 times, 108$ per barrel.
To keep it short, one can figure it out themselves:
Using the world price of diesel DBD's oil buddies fill their pockets over the head of the Americans. Nothing todo with Ukraine.
