Elite liver research center at @OUHhospital. We conduct clinical studies on steatotic liver disease, alcohol, metabolism, microbiome, and liver health.
Professor Aleksander Krag receives this year's Hagedorn Prize for his major contributions to the early detection and treatment of chronic liver disease. Because of his work, clinicians are better able to identify patients at greatest risk of serious complications and to tailor treatment, improving quality of life for people living with advanced liver disease.

Is liver steatosis a disease or the emperor’s new clothes?
I don’t think it’s meaningful to say 30% of the global population has a liver disease- do you?
Is steatosis then a risk factor or a pre-disease? Read the arguments in @JHepatology

To Screen—or not to screen for
for advanced steatotic liver disease?
Our new @LancetGastroHep review re-examines Wilson & Jungner (1968), weighs today’s evidence, and proposes 2025 screening criteria

We’re incredibly proud to co-author this new @Nature paper on alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency
🔬DVP on liver biopsies to
🎯uncover the response to toxic protein buildup
🎯identify compensatory mechanisms

Our paper is out in @Nature today! We use Deep Visual Proteomics (DVP) to dissect α1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) in human liver at single-cell resolution.
Let us take a tour through proteotoxic stress in intact human tissue — one hepatocyte at a time.

Why do some patients remain healthy while others develop severe liver complications despite having the exact same genetic mutation in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency?
Proud 😊- Deep Visual Proteomics at single cell level

Huge congratulations to our amazing colleague, @Johanne_Kragh, on earning her ph.d!🥳
Her research will greatly enhance our understanding of how molecules and bacteria change in steatotic liver disease.
We're so proud of you, Johanne!👏
