‼️ THE WOMAN NOLAN WELLS WAS CHATTING WITH HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED, CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS CONTINUE TO ARISE

New details have emerged about the final hours of 18-year-old Nolan Wells before he was found dead on Mississippi’s Horn Island, as conflicting accounts continue to raise questions about what happened after his friends left the island.

The Daily Mail identified the young woman Wells was reportedly speaking with before his friends departed as Katie McCormack, a 19-year-old college student from a community east of Ocean Springs, where he lived.

Wells traveled to Horn Island on July 4 with a group of close friends and spent several hours enjoying the holiday among hundreds of other teenagers and young adults. Later that afternoon, the group reportedly realized their boat was taking on water and needed to return to the mainland before it sank.

Wells’ friends later told investigators that he chose to remain on the island because he was talking with McCormack and instructed them to leave without him while they made the approximately 10-mile trip back to shore.

However, that version of events has been disputed by McCormack’s family.

McCormack’s sister, Gracie McCormack, said her sister believed Wells was preparing to leave with the same friends who had brought him to the island.

“Katie had a conversation and assumed that Nolan was getting ready to get on the boat he came out on,” Gracie McCormack said. “Katie assumed the ‘friends’ telling him to get on the boat wouldn’t have left him.”

Gracie said her sister was visiting Horn Island with a different group than Wells and was later picked up by her brother and his fiancée. She added that the family has fully cooperated with investigators and Wells’ mother.

“We have given all the answers we can give to his mom and authorities,” she said.

There has been no allegation of wrongdoing against Katie McCormack, and Wells’ family has publicly expressed support for her.

Still, the differing accounts about whether Wells intended to board the boat with his friends or remain on the island have become a central focus of questions surrounding the case.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who was retained by Wells’ family, previously highlighted the conflicting statements.

“She saying he went and got on the boat. They saying he didn’t get on the boat. So which is it?” Crump said.

He added that someone ��must not be telling the truth” if the accounts cannot be reconciled.

Crump has also argued that the investigation should be especially thorough because Wells was the only Black teenager in the group of friends who traveled to the island.

Katie McCormack has not publicly discussed the events of July 4 but responded to a social media post from a friend by asking for prayers.

“What’s understood don’t have to be said. I love y’all. Just pray for his family and his friends,” she wrote. “I’m good, and all I can do is pray for healing over them. This is a terrible situation all in all.”

Meanwhile, Wells’ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, have continued to question the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office’s early statements indicating there were no signs of foul play. They have expressed concern that investigators reached that conclusion too quickly.

The official autopsy results have not yet been released. Earlier this week, preliminary findings from an independent autopsy commissioned by Wells’ family also listed both the cause and manner of death as undetermined, citing significant limitations due to the condition of Wells’ body at the time of the examination.

As investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding Wells’ death, questions remain about his final moments on Horn Island and the differing accounts of how he became separated from the group he arrived with.
