Let's do some simple math.

A 787 has 207 Economy seats on average in a 3-3-3 configuration, and the 2022 avg ticket price for econ was $328. That generates $67,896 in revenue for the airline purely in seats.

If you say remove 1 seat from each side to widen the paths into a 2-3-2 configuration you reduce seating down to 161 seats. That's a reduction of $15,088 in revenue.

To compensate, the average econ seat price would need to raise $93.71 bringing the total average econ seat price to $421.71.

That also ignores that less seating = more required flights to handle the same volume of customers. For example 2022 had roughly 90,000 passenger flights per day, to handle the same passenger volume you would likely need to increase available flights by a further 20,000.

That means further costs, more airframes, more crew, etc. This is real basic economy of scale discussions and math. You'd potentially start pricing out regular/budget customers from being able to afford flying all to provide convenience to a minority of air traveling customers.
