This shot was taken by photographer Robert Friedman right after a teenage Prince signed his very first record deal with Warner Bros. To mark the occasion and capture the young prodigy's hometown roots, Friedman had Prince pose right outside the Schmitt Music building on South 10th Street.
That backdrop behind him is legendary—a massive, five-story sheet music mural painted right onto the store's brick wall, specifically featuring the notes to a complex classical piano piece by Maurice Ravel.
