Here is what was clear – – the apocalypse narrative coming from Russell Moore and his allies was always a political gambit designed to punish his enemies and move the Southern Baptist Convention to the left. He leveraged his relationships in the press (particularly the Washington Post and Bob Smietana at RNS) to do this. If the Biden DOJ had anything whatsoever that would allow them to pursue a case against the largest protestant denomination in the US, it would do so. This tells us, it cannot.

The shrieks and garment rending from activists (including the activists in pulpits) were never grounded in fact.

Have there been some individual abusers in the SBC’s 47,000 churches over the last 20 years? Yes. Of course. Because there is no institution on earth that has never been affected by that issue. But again, the rate of incidence is very, very low compared to comparable secular institutions.

Most importantly, though, any pastor or advisor in the SBC who played any role in furthering this false narrative that has unjustly destroyed reputations and cost millions should never again be allowed anywhere near leadership again.

They have proven they either have no discernment, no courage, or were more interested in their own ambition than dealing with the allegations truthfully.

They are disqualified.

And those who helped Russell Moore execute his political revenge with underhanded tactics are not just disqualified from SBC leadership, they should be disqualified from ministry altogether. You know who you are.
