@violentsilk Yeah, it was interesting choice on their part. Because of that, I think they took away some opportunities for the actors to really sell the “disturbingly empty” and “everything is wrong” essence of it. The actors were pretty good too! (You should still give it a chance!)

I think this is what really did it in. There were a lot of tense moments built around great atmosphere and good acting. But once they started revealing what’s been lurking in the background it lost steam. There was definitely an unintentional tonal shift because of it. Still, the

I think the flaw was in showing too much of the creatures, like any horror. It wasn't scary but it was tense and uncomfortable, which I think is fine. It was good by the sum of its parts, but not great by any means.

— about the backrooms or the main characters. I’m sure it was implied by the visuals rather than the actions of the story but the characters and atmosphere still felt unclear. Congrats on them breaking records though. Wish I could buy that lamp from the Christmas Tree Room. </3.

— idea that the horror of the backrooms is built around the unknown did come through in the film and you’re right, the commentary on memory and the backrooms of the human psyche was very nice. They did a lot to make it visually interesting too. I still wish I got more information
