insanely proud of our new #doctorsmess - it was the outcome of a fabulous group of people coming together and having a laugh painting until 3am one weekend
itโs not often that you see, let alone make, genuine and sincere change in the NHS but we did it!

Minister @zubirahmed, a transplant surgeon, told me that in January he had to decline a kidney for someone because a lack of access to GP records at a weekend meant he couldn't be sure the organ was safe. GPs meanwhile still rely on letters from hospitals after a patient stays in
Doctor substitution is rising, and patients are being left unsure who is actually responsible for their care.
Our new Doctor lanyards and badge holders are now available to order, a practical step to restore clarity and protect patients. #AskForADoctor

On International Workersโ Day, we stand with doctors as workers.
Being a union matters because strong collective organisation improves working conditions, protects pay and contracts, and gives doctors a voice at work.
A new generation of doctors and nurses are training for careers in the NHS.
As they look to the future, theyโre setting out the changes they hope the next Scottish government will consider.
The Tories want to scrap facility time.
Thatโs the time union reps use to help workers, resolve problems and keep people safe at work.
This isnโt reform. Itโs an attack on working people, and itโs exactly what weโve come to expect from the Tories.

Doctors are workers, and workers have the right to strike.
Itโs welcome to hear support for that principle from @SKinnock, especially following recent speculation about restrictions on industrial action for doctors.

๐จ UPDATE - RIGHT TO STRIKE
Last week, we set out our concerns that Ministers had failed to rule out a move to limit the right to strike by banning resident doctors from taking strike action.
Weโre pleased that today, following our statement, DHSC Minister Stephen Kinnock has clarified the Governmentโs position. Speaking in Parliament, he said:

Heโs right to say that imposing restrictions on unions is โjust not what the Labour Party is aboutโ, and we welcome the Government listening to unions and finally putting these rumours to bed.
On Times Radio today, resident doctor committee chair @fletchjack pushed back on a story in The Times that we had "agreed an offer with Wes Streeting". Pure political briefing from the Government.
This story in The Times is a lie.
Only the tens of thousands of resident doctor members we represent can agree a deal.
Our negotiating team has a clear mandate from our committee and members to get back around the table and that is what the Health Secretary needs to engage with. Time spent briefing out misleading accounts of events would be better spent getting a final deal done.
