Huge crowd today in Wellington at our meeting to resist and oppose this Government’s destructive agenda.
Unions will keep this opposition up every day between now and the next election. This Government is dangerous and divisive and must be stopped.
Every decision of #NZ governments impacts on #Maori. News of significant cuts in Maori and Treaty-related advice areas is cause for concern. It’s like a return to an NZ of yesteryear which did not acknowledge Maori perspectives except in a tokenistic way. https://t.co/ItV3UAZAlG
Now @FleurFitzsimons on the public service. The public service as a national building block. Must also commit to “just transitions”. To me, it’s the challenge of maintaining turangawaewae while embracing change. #kiatikakiapono
People’s SC on pay equity - with former MPs from Labour, National, Greens, and NZ First - putting out a report today suggesting pay equity changes were a violation of the rule of law and breached various laws and conventions.
The fudge served its purpose, gave Taxpayers (not-a-) Union attention and made this Government’s austerity agenda look moderate by comparison.

We shouldn’t be naive and think the PSA union and a centre-right government are going to agree on everything. However, sometimes, with dialogue, some shared positions can be found. A good meeting on Thursday with PSA National Secretaries Duane Leo and @FleurFitzsimons where some understanding could be found.

Oops. I read Judith's letter! It's really bad! I'll try and keep this short.
First up, this bare-faced lie. The countries in the pink circle have a similar-sized economy to NZ. Govt spending is a lot higher in all but one . [🧵 1/n]
Government claims to be focussed on law and order but won't build new Courtrooms or upgrade existing facilities.
Judges and court staff deserve better than unmanageable workloads and unsafe work conditions - will they listen to the Chief Justice on this?

Emeritus Professor James Belich ONZM is worried recent cuts at the Ministry of Culture and Heritage are shortsighted. He says we still have so much to learn about the history of New Zealand and its interactions with the world. Listen here https://t.co/5bnPKylMWj #HistoryMatters
#NZ Govt has spent $10m to fix the national war memorial’s bells, but has fired the carillonist - the only person who can play them, reports @radionz. This is what public spending cuts have come to. https://t.co/XzSTLuSlQq
Workers rallied to mark the formal filing of our legal action against the government for stealing $12.8 billion from low paid women workers. #payequity#UnionStrong@nzteu
Merging the Ministries for Women and Pacific People's into other agencies would water down their role in analysing Government policy and giving free & frank advice on Cabinet Papers, so much for the evidence based decision making this Government promised https://t.co/mtlq68Yv4E
You can almost hear the sighs of relief from the jobless and job-insecure, the teetering small business owner, the sacked public servant, the householder on the brink.
“Did you hear that, everyone? He says it’s gonna be okay!”
#BREAKING: We are calling on the Prime Minister to show leadership by removing Brooke van Velden as Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety, following her recent comments that politicise the Employment Relations Authority and breach the Cabinet Manual. 1/6
