@sparklingruby I live in Arizona, and people here have had quite a few discussions about grocery stores having policies in place that just allow the people to walk out with whatever. It’s a safety issue and a potential liability for the company if the employees intervenes and is injured. 1/x

@LauraMiers One time my ex woke up unable to walk w/o getting dizzy and falling. Found out a (cold) virus caused nerve damage in his ear. B4 covid, but still could be an issue w/ Covid. The way ex got better was vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Hope your son improves

A horrible but extremely important study here. I have said for years that we don’t place enough focus on just how many sex offenders are in our society, which increases victim prejudice and victim blaming.

We always hear ‘1 in 4 girls will be abused’ or ‘1 in 3 women will be raped’ - but we never hear ‘1 in X men are rapists’.

This study of 1900 Australian men follows the similar studies in USA and UK.

Key findings here:

1 in 10 men admitted to sexually abusing a child
1 in 6 men reported being sexually attracted to children
1 in 15 men said they would have sexual contact with a child under 14 if they wouldn’t get caught

The men who offended against children were more likely to be professionals, married, earn higher incomes and work with children.

Whilst we might not like this stats and results, we cannot continue in our sector without accurate estimates of how many people are abusive and dangerous.

All of our stats are based on victims, but no one wants to talk about the sheer amount of abusers - millions of them in our societies.

Work like this is vital, in my opinion, to end victim blaming. If there are millions of these offenders, how can any person or agency blame the victim? How can they claim they should have seen it coming? Or should have known? Or should have protected themselves more?

THIS is the real reason why sexual violence and child abuse is so common - not because victims have ‘vulnerabilities’, but because there are millions of perpetrators in every corner of our lives.

@look_to_god @Jana_OGrady @MustelidDwyer Mine was a red velvet ant which is really a wingless wasp. Got “stung” while I was mowing the lawn. Was really more of a puncture wound. I don’t think I’ve ever felt pain like that, and it went on for hours. I just found out they’re also called cow killer wasps. Makes sense

Yes, there’s videos of ppl behaving worse, but there are also MANY videos of ppl (esp POC) behaving just fine and having the response be highly extreme. If you aren’t seeing it ur refusing to look.

Bottom line: YOU’RE WRONG.

@LauraMiers I’m so sorry this is happening. My friend didn’t get Covid but was given the vaccine w/o her permission while in the hospital for sepsis. It didn’t go well. She’s still recovering, but a treatment that has really helped is plasma transfusions. Maybe that could help you?

@LauraMiers @jewstein3000 I saw a lady on TikTok who talked about (I think) this issue. I don’t think it came from Covid. She just had severe gastroparesis. She didn’t eat and “fed” herself through a tube directly into her heart. But it kept her alive and healthy. Hoping you get the care you need soon 💕
