Dear Internet: please stop using "lol" and "lmao" as punctuation marks. They don't make things funny that aren't funny. They don't give you a pass when you're being an ass. It just looks and sounds stupid. Stop that.
@japan_nobunaga The fact that he had to think about it means cheese has not won. Yet.
I'm a butter gal, personally. And my Japanese fiancé is horrified by how much I use when cooking. But cheese is a close second place.
@MittenstheGlove@KyleDWilson1@_Hero_Hei_ What does a 2018 article about workplace discrimination show about connections between gender and temperament? I didn't see anything related to that in the article.
@PoliticsRen@JohnSmithjrcv@JARRETT@dohertyjackk I apologize for my misreading of your original comment, by the way. And there really should be a "change tracker" for posts that get retroactively edited or tagged; would clear up a lot of disagreements.
@GiaMMacool The thing I hate about all of that nonsense is that it casts women in the role of "victim without agency"; like you said, the fix for all of those so-called issues is just initiating change yourself. That's choosing power and responsibility instead of an easy out.
@MittenstheGlove@KyleDWilson1@_Hero_Hei_ I'm not talking about choices. 'Not a determining factor' doesn't rule out average differences, and there's published work suggesting they exist, such as Taylor's tend-and-befriend model and cross-cultural Big Five studies. And gender is a significant factor in military roles.
@MittenstheGlove@KyleDWilson1@_Hero_Hei_ Your position is a generalization, not specific experience, which is another type of limitation. It's a theory with no evidence backing it up. The truth, I imagine, is somewhere in the middle.
And "people are...capable of doing most roles regardless of gender" is not a fact.
@IT_unhinged Makes me think of the time that some genius CNO decided to ditch the Navy tradition of referring to enlisted by their rate/rank. Every command had 30 "Petty Officer Smith"s showing up when they'd call over the 1MC. It got reversed, but damn - couldn't have seen that coming?
@Bluewall@joecrim87@IT_unhinged Dude, I wish that refusing to believe in stupidity made it all disappear. That would be awesome.
If I ever find a genie...
@MittenstheGlove@KyleDWilson1@_Hero_Hei_ It's not just a Japanese view. Plenty of people in other countries hold that view, and I am one of them - and my view is based on my own experience, which may not jive with someone else's, but that doesn't make it any less valid.
@tanpukunokami I am Texan, and my fiancé is from Osaka. I took him to San Antonio, to The County Line (on the Riverwalk) for brisket (lean and 2nd cut), and pork ribs on top of that. Now he won't stop telling me he wants more BBQ. Can something be both a mistake and an excellent decision?
@writeandlift I'm not sure where he gets the "indentured servant" thing from - he was obviously free to leave at any point. Perhaps he isn't familiar with the actual definition of the term.
