MARSH HARBOUR, Bahamas — Five gunmen ambushed and killed Warren “Spy” Ellis outside an auto-parts store in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, shortly before noon Monday, August 31.

Police said a 14-year-old schoolboy passing through the area was struck in the right leg during the attack.

The eighth-grade student had stopped at Parts City Auto Parts to buy a drink while walking home from school. His pastor said he was not related to Ellis and was not traveling with him.

Video reportedly shows four armed men approaching while Ellis walked behind the boy. Police said five gunmen participated in the attack.

The student dropped his school bag and moved back toward the store after he was struck. He was airlifted to New Providence for treatment and later released after doctors determined the bullet passed through the flesh of his leg without causing more severe damage.

Ellis died at the scene. Graphic recordings showing him lying in a pool of blood circulated across social media following the killing.

The gunmen reportedly escaped in a Cadillac that was later found abandoned and burned. No arrests had been announced.

Decades of Criminal Cases and Gunfire

Ellis had repeatedly faced serious criminal allegations, although several cases against him were later dropped or stayed.

Prosecutors charged him with murder and attempted murder in 2001 after nurse Joan Lunn was killed at Princess Margaret Hospital during an alleged attempt to murder recovering shooting victim Anthony “Blackus” Saunders.

Charges against Ellis were later dropped in exchange for his testimony against Kendon Brown, who received a life sentence for manslaughter and attempted murder.

A failed attempt on Ellis’s life killed his girlfriend in 2003, prompting him to relocate to Abaco.

Ellis and an extradited drug dealer were charged in 2008 with the 2000 murder of Timothy Henfield. Proceedings were stayed the following year after a key prosecution witness recanted.

Gunfire struck Ellis again in 2017 during a shooting that killed his friend Trevor “Straw Man” Thompson.

Police arrested Ellis and his wife in 2018 after allegedly finding more than $13,000 in their luggage at Lynden Pindling International Airport. Prosecutors dropped the proceeds-of-crime case in 2023.

Two men reportedly affiliated with Ellis, Duran “Monster” Neely and Mario “Fox” Deveaux, were also killed during the past year.

Police sources suspect Ellis’s killing was retaliatory, although investigators have not publicly established a motive.

Monday’s killing was Abaco’s second recorded murder of 2026 and the 52nd recorded across The Bahamas, according to The Tribune’s count.
