Looking forward to the next session @MW_Initiative . Thank you for having me as a 2022-2023 scholar!

[Magic Wand Initiative @MW_Initiative]

We were so excited to meet our scholars tonight in our first session of the US VMW 2022-23 Program! We were lucky to hear from Dr. Lilit Garibyan and Dr. Kvedar. Very excited for what is to come!

[Beto O'Rourke @BetoORourke]

Governor Abbott, if you have any decency, you will immediately withdraw from this weekend’s NRA convention and urge them to hold it anywhere but Texas.

[Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOC]

There is no such thing as being “pro-life” while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place.

It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.

[Bryan Carmody @jbcarmody]

IMHO, small absolute differences in performance with substantial relative differences between URiM and non-URiM residents on a subjective scale tells you more about the faculty doing the evaluation than the resident they’re evaluating.

[Stephanie Florez-Pollack @FlorezPollackMD]

But we need to remember that the opinion of minorities being “less good” in medicine still exists among the highest of academic circles. We need to stand up against such blatant bias.

[Stephanie Florez-Pollack @FlorezPollackMD]

I find this so triggering… as the med student that sat in the back of grand rounds listening to a respected dermatologist say to the crowd that minorities maybe “are just not competitive to become derms because they don’t study enough and are not good enough”. My heart sank 💔

[Bryan Carmody @jbcarmody]

RESEARCHERS: Black, Hispanic, and Native American internal medicine residents receive lower scores from their faculty on the ACGME competencies. Maybe it’s structural racism?

FORMER IVY LEAGUE MEDICAL SCHOOL DEAN: Maybe they’re just not as good!

[Stephanie Florez-Pollack @FlorezPollackMD]

Thankfully right after this occurrence my derm faculty mentors including @DonGlassII reached out to me and reminded me that I belong in medicine, and in fact, people with diverse backgrounds are much needed in medicine.

[Azucena Ramos, MD, PhD @LaHMSPachuca]

Epithelioid blue nevus. Some cells resemble avocados 🥑, plus the term “fried egg” is used way too much.

Today for the FIRST time in my life I had a Black male doctor tell me I am enough during my interview. I’m still in tears thinking about it and definitely will carry that with me going forward

Me pulling up a bunch of CME articles while I study for ABD COREs 😭😭

[Amani Jambhekar MD, MBA, FACS @AjvictoryMD]

An attending called me “bossy” and “talks too much” but then also requested I be on his service as a PGY3 because he knew I would take care of his patients and he didnt trust the PGY4 OR 5. No doubt if I’d been a male resident he would just have said I was a good leader.

[Latinx Dermatology @latinxderm]

I am humbled and honored to be the inaugural Bernett L. Johnson, Jr. M.D. Endowed Professor of Dermatology at Penn. Dr. Johnson, an extraordinary dermatologist and CMO at HUP, was a steadfast advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion. I walk in the footsteps of a giant.
