Out of an abundance of caution, the UF campus will close and classes and all activities will be canceled from midnight until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (1/22).
@MissAshes92 We were able to specify the locations people could get rides to (our shelters). It’s amazing. This is going to solve a lot of the transportation challenges we have had in recent hurricanes.
@MissAshes92 Nope. Literally in the midst of Helene we started getting reports from residents the Uber code from the state no longer worked. Tested that in the EOC to confirm, then ESF 7 contacted Uber and set up a business account with a spending limit.
This brings up another potential issue during disasters which is people using AI images to commit fraud or obtain disaster resources/assistance using AI images of fake damage. I could see this being a concern in the near future.
I wasn't kidding around at our recent Tropical IWT when I said fake AI imagery was going to be rampant this hurricane season...
When in doubt, don't tweet it out.
Campus Safety Message-Gainesville. The University of Florida Police Department phone lines are still down. This is a county-wide issue. For all emergency and non-emergency calls, dial 911.

The best time to prepare for hurricanes is BEFORE hurricane season begins. Avoid having to rush through potentially life-saving preparations by waiting until it’s too late. #HurricanePrep#HurricaneStrong
