NIGERIAN ARMY-LED JOINT SECURITY TEAM RESCUES 16 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KOGI

Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in close collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and hunters, have successfully rescued all 16 persons abducted by suspected kidnappers during a coordinated search and rescue operation in Kogi State.

The victims were kidnapped on Sunday 9 August 2026 when armed criminals attacked commuters along the Ojuwo–Ajengo–Memarebo and Ojiwo–Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area of the state. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence that the victims had been moved to the vicinity of Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area, troops of 21 Battalion and personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard immediately launched a joint search and rescue operation alongside the Nigeria Police, vigilantes and local hunters.

During the operation, the joint security team established contact with the fleeing kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce firefight. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordinated assault of the security forces, the criminals abandoned all their captives and escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds.

The operation culminated in the successful rescue of all 16 kidnapped victims, comprising six adult males, six adult females and four children. The rescued victims are undergoing documentation, medical assessment and reunification with their families.

Regrettably, one local hunter who participated courageously in the operation paid the supreme sacrifice, May his soul rest in peace. Also, one police personnel sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving medical treatment. Their bravery and commitment to protecting innocent citizens are deeply appreciated.

The successful rescue of the 16 victims underscores the effectiveness of sustained joint operations and the synergy among the Nigerian Army, sister security agencies and local security stakeholders in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes. It also reflects the resolve of security forces to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the country.

The Nigerian Army commends members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely provision of credible information, which remains critical to ongoing efforts to protect lives and restore peace. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through appropriate channels.

TROOPS OF OPERATION KO SALO NEUTRALIZE KIDNAPPER, RESCUE ABDUCTED FARMER IN EDO

Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated operation in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The operation followed credible intelligence on the abduction of Mr Lucky Egbiki, aged 50, who was kidnapped at his farm in Okehussan, Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The rescue operation was conducted at about 1800 hours on 6 August 2026 by troops, in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police. The security forces exploited ransom negotiations to lure the kidnappers to a predetermined location at Onogholo, within Esan South East Local Government Area, where they engaged the criminal elements.

During the encounter, one of the kidnappers who arrived at the location to collect the ransom was neutralized by the troops, forcing the other members of the gang to abandon the victim and flee into the surrounding forest, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

The troops subsequently rescued the victim unhurt and recovered the sum of ₦1.5 million intended as ransom payment. The rescued victim was handed over to his family after preliminary debriefing and medical assessment, and was confirmed to be in stable condition.

In a follow-up clearance operation conducted on 7 and 8 August 2026, troops aggressively combed the surrounding forest in an effort to track the fleeing kidnappers. However, no further contact was made with the criminal elements.

The successful operation further demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s operational readiness, intelligence-driven approach and unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping and other forms of violent crime in Edo State. It also underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in enhancing the effectiveness of security operations.

The people of Edo State are therefore encouraged to continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to security agencies, as such support remains vital to sustaining operational successes and enhancing security across the state.

Meanwhile, the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, commended the troops for their proactiveness, courage and professionalism displayed during the operation. He reassured the people of Edo State that the Brigade would continue to apply sustained pressure on kidnappers and other criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility.

The Commander further affirmed that troops would sustain aggressive and intelligence-led operations aimed at denying criminal elements safe havens, protecting lives and property, and creating a secure environment for farming and other legitimate economic activities across Edo State.

Troops Arrest Suspected Boko Haram Fighter Linked to May Attack on Military School in Yobe

Troops have arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist allegedly involved in the May 8 attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NETTS) in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, Musa Abdulhamid, 26, was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 4 while allegedly attempting to infiltrate the military facility.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect, who said he hails from Potiskum, Yobe State, allegedly confessed to being among the Boko Haram fighters that attacked the school on May 8, 2026.

According to the sources, the suspect identified three alleged Boko Haram commanders—Mohammed, Mustapha, and Ismail—as those who led the operation.

He further claimed that the assault had been planned for a long time, with the fighters hiding in bushes near a rocky area around Buni Gari before launching the attack.

The suspect also disclosed that although commanders usually concealed casualty figures from rank-and-file fighters, the group was believed to have lost more than 10 members during the operation, as many of those who took part never returned to their camps.

According to the sources, the suspect said the group’s commanders rarely disclosed details of planned attacks in advance. Instead, fighters were reportedly briefed only when operations were imminent, after their mobile phones had been collected, and were then directed to designated targets.

He also claimed that the insurgents constantly moved from one hideout to another to evade detection by security forces and admitted to operating a long firearm during the attack, although he said he did not know its specific type.

Military sources said the suspect remains in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and profiling.

The arrest is expected to provide security agencies with additional intelligence on the planning, command structure and operational methods of Boko Haram cells operating in the North-East.

In an intelligence driven operation, the DSS, working alongside community vigilantes and specially trained hunters, reportedly dismantled a deadly reprisal mission led by notorious bandit kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki. Instead of terrorising innocent communities, the attackers ran into a carefully prepared security response.

The reported outcome speaks for itself. Over 60 suspected bandits were neutralised, including Idi Abasu Aiki and 14 of his top commanders. While the nation celebrates this major security success, we must also honour the four brave vigilantes and hunters who paid the ultimate price defending their communities. Their sacrifice must never be forgotten. 🫡

THE PILOT WHO FLEW INTO HISTORY: REMEMBERING FLIGHT LIEUTENANT TAIWO OLUFEMI ASANIYI 🕊️

Some names are not remembered because of how long they lived, but because of the courage, sacrifice, and service they gave to their Nation.

Flight Lieutenant Taiwo Olufemi Asaniyi was one of those rare souls.

A Nigerian Air Force pilot, a young officer, and a patriot who gave his life while serving his country. On 21 May 2021, he was among the gallant officers who lost their lives in the tragic Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash near Kaduna, alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military personnel.

Born on 25 February 1992 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Flight Lieutenant Asaniyi answered the call to serve Nigeria by joining the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2010. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force in 2015 and rose to the rank of Flight Lieutenant through dedication, discipline, and commitment.

Beyond the uniform was a young man with dreams, family, and a future ahead of him. He was preparing to begin a new chapter of his life through marriage, but destiny had another path written for him.

Today, we remember not just the pilot who controlled an aircraft, but the officer who carried the hopes and pride of a nation.

May the souls of Flight Lieutenant Taiwo Olufemi Asaniyi and all fallen military heroes continue to rest in peace. 🕊️

To every serving officer putting their lives on the line for Nigeria, may God continue to protect you, strengthen you, and bring you home safely.

In 2019, Aircraftman Bashir Umar, an indigene of Adamawa State and a personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), found €37,000 (worth approximately ₦66 million at today's exchange rate) at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

Despite the enormous temptation, he returned every euro to its rightful owner without taking a single cent.

His honesty did not go unnoticed. In recognition of his exceptional integrity, he received several rewards and honours:

✓ A Special Double Promotion from Aircraftman to Corporal, a promotion that would ordinarily take about a decade to achieve.

✓ A Letter of Commendation from the Chief of the Air Staff for his outstanding honesty and professionalism.

✓ Recognition by the Kano State Government for his honesty and service to the nation.

✓ A House in Abuja, donated by Aliko Dangote as a reward for his integrity.

Cpl Bashir Umar's story reminds us that integrity is not weakness, it is strength of character. In a world where many would have chosen otherwise, he chose honour over greed and became a symbol of the values every public servant should aspire to.

OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS SURRENDER OF SENIOR ISWAP FINANCE OPERATIVE AS WAVE OF TERRORIST SURRENDERS GATHERS MOMENTUM

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the surrender of a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative, underscoring the sustained impact of ongoing kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across the North East. The development comes amid a growing wave of terrorist surrenders, with approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily surrendering to troops in recent days, further highlighting the mounting pressure on terrorist strongholds.

The terrorist surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion under 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on 25 July 2026 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. His decision to lay down his arms follows the recent series of coordinated and decisive land and air offensives conducted by Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist enclaves.

Preliminary profiling indicates that the terrorist served as the Chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics. He surrendered alongside two male children.

Items recovered from the terrorist include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one motorcycle, and the sum of ₦40,000. The individual is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to exploit actionable intelligence that will support ongoing operations and facilitate the targeting of remaining terrorist elements across the Theatre.

The surrender of such a key finance operative represents another significant setback for ISWAP, reflecting the growing erosion of the group’s command structure, operational capability, and sustainment network under the relentless pressure of Operation HADIN KAI. Coupled with the increasing number of recent surrenders, this development confirms deepening disillusionment within terrorist ranks and points to an accelerating wave of defections from terrorist camps.

Operation HADIN KAI remains steadfast in its mission to restore enduring peace, security, and stability across the North East. The Theatre Command therefore calls on all remaining terrorists to take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms before it is too late. The Command also urges members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Lt Col Musa Umar began his military career as a Soldier (other rank) before earning a commission as an officer through dedication, discipline, and outstanding professionalism. His remarkable journey remains an inspiration to generations of soldiers.

To thousands who passed through the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, “Dagger” is a name synonymous with discipline, resilience, and excellence. As an instructor, he played a pivotal role in shaping many of the professional soldiers serving in the Nigerian Army today.

As he retires after 35 years of honourable service, we thank him for his sacrifices, exemplary leadership, and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian Army and the nation.
