Got stiff hips?
Most of the time it has zero to do with bony anatomical structures
What can it be?
Fascial Adhesions
Let’s break it down!!

One of the biggest problems in player development is that we’re prioritizing movement SPECIALIZATION over global movement competency
One develops a player who can execute one skill
The other develops an ATHLETE who can adapt to different plays
More movement options is 🔑
@flowsdoc He’s like Yoda .
‘My son had a HS/Legion coach who was EXACTLY Murph. After years of hitting tweaks/chat in the dugout he hit almost .500 his senior season , led the state in RBIs at a few points and ended up a game from State .
Great coaching matters so much in baseball.

My JUCO coach used to say: “On every play! Know the speed of the hitter AND the runner on 1st.”
Fly ball with less than two outs?
Don’t automatically take the easy out.

I’ve noticed a pattern in baseball players experiencing shoulder pain.
Many have been instructed to “throw over the top,” regardless of their natural arm slot.
Are we overlooking individual movement variability by prescribing ONE throwing pattern?
If perfect mechanics were enough…
they wouldn’t disappear in games.
So why does a player look great in lessons, but stiff and inconsistent under pressure in the game?
Let’s break it down🧵

This is probably one of the biggest gaps in player development.
Sometimes an arm path problem isn’t really an ARM problem.
It can start with how the athlete moves their hips, trunk, or shoulders.
This is why we use a whole-body movement screen at Baseball Flows. We look for limitations in mobility, strength, and coordination that may be affecting how a player throws.
Instead of immediately trying to FIX the arm, we first look at WHY the athlete moves that way.
The good news? Movement patterns can change, even after years of repetition.
Sometimes the best way to improve throwing mechanics is to develop the ATHLETE, not just the throwing motion.

Youth baseball has a development problem‼️
Kids master drills… not movement.
So when the game speeds up:
late swings, off-balance throws, stiff defenders.
It’s not a mechanics issue.
It’s a movement skills deficiency.
Build the athlete first.
⚾ Move Better. Play Better.
@GrahamD14 lol.. in baseball terms “swing your swing” is the same as arm paths… we try to fix players too young before they figure out how their body works. Let them figure it out and train their athleticism first.
So true.. this is where the constraints led approach becomes increasingly valuable. Also, understanding arc of motions and why athletes organize towards certain compensatory global movement patterns. I’m the first one to say that dealing with movement impairments is one of the hardest things to do in training

That’s why we built Baseball Flows.
To give players the movement capacity mechanics depend on:
• Balance
• Coordination
• Sequencing
• Rhythm
• Flow
All in 15–20 minutes.
