@markgurman Apple technically lost 35-40% of the market overnight until they fix this (sure people could still buy new products, but I wouldn't). Wait to buy a new phone until 2028-2030 if you can.
@jewiss@kom1n@LelloucheNico Well they could require each competitor to meet their data protection standard and work with the EU on enforcing that standard.
@durreadan01 3. Not making it available in the EU and China due to weak compliance - not building the services correct, thus shutting out 35-40 percent(!) of your market share.
@MKBHD Still not talking about the issue with Apple and the EU. Apple tried to push through a product not compliant with enough interoperability thus was not allowed to release in Europe.
@nandoprince93 Not available in Europe is a big issue. Apple tried to ignore regional data protection and anti competition legislation and ask for exemption status for 1,5 years. If they developed it to be compliant from the start this would not have been an issue. Surprised few cover this.
@verge ...and compliance with regional laws. It still cannot deliver services meeting EU standards. Certain tech released years ago is still not availabe! How this is not bigger news with legal nerds at The Verge?
@ronaldmannak If you don't know, how can you say it is dumb? Agree it is unfortunate situation, but Apple tried to bulldoze EU legislation by asking for special exemptions, they could have tried to adapt the tech to be compliant from the start.
@flexbox_ I don't expect to buy any new Apple products until 2028-2030 at the earliest. Apple just lost a couple of markets for years. Smart consumers will wait. Vote with your wallets.
@Kostyan42994185@arnaudducouret It sucks, tech and data protection is complicated. Suspect the sentiment is good and lawmakers know Apple have financial reasons here too, so there will be a natural push and pull situation. Perhaps regulators will find a balanced solution which is fair for the open market.
@macrumorslive Siri AI launch is pretty bad - it will take another 12-18 months delay in the EU, this is a HUGE market. There is no reason to upgrade to get features not available in your region. Clever buyers in the EU will wait until 2028-2030 to get a new device. Lots of lost sales.

@VadimYuryev Maybe but it will take another 12-18 months delay in the EU, a huge market. Smart buyers in the EU will wait until 2028-2030 to get a new device (if they can).
