Going into my 3rd year at the same school, I'm now at the point where I'm going to have students in chemistry that I had 2 years ago in freshman science. IM SO PUMPED! These students are great to work with and I'm excited to get started this fall. ๐คฉ๐๐ผ
First lab day! I have Ss practice setting up the Bunsen burner and figure out where the hottest spot is with copper wire. They were mesmerized ๐ฏ

One advantage I'm seeing about not grading homework is how quickly students can receive feedback. Instead of waiting a week for me to grade a worksheet, students can check their work with the premade key immediately.

@welchchem@KristinGregory7@KatyDornbos@AMcMahonEd I split them into pairs and made it a "competition". Each pair only had 1 piece of glassware that they chose. Yes, we only compared to show difference in volume. I also had them label the test tube with the glassware that the water came from.
I stole this activity from @KatyDornbos who stole it from @AMcMahonEd
Students had to fill their container with 10mL. We then compared results in the test tubes. We're talking significant digits tomorrow! #iteachchem
Idk if I'd say no school at all, but there's definitely an argument to be made for some students not needing to go all the way through the high school system we currently have ๐ซฃ
Controversial take: In many cases, public school does more harm than good.
A non-zero (and in fact significant) subset of kids would be better off without school at all.
Many kids thrive in public school; just as many are harmed, and carry scars for the rest of their lives.
For some reason students like to tell themselves that "leading/trailing zeros" are defined by their placement relative to the decimal point, even though I never say that. ๐ง
The column on the right is my attempt to get ahead of that misconception. #iteachchem
