I have not touched a language for a while because I have other things that fill my time now, unfortunately. But, I am doing a Masters now which is exciting. Maybe I’ll get back to learning languages when a) I’ve got more motivation and b) my mental health is better 😄😄
“You’ll get used to it” @lingosteve says. I’ve struggled with 同意 for so long. I stopped caring. Today it was in something I was reading via @LingQ_Central and I just internally knew it. No translations, I just understood. Trust the journey, you’ll eventually get there #langtwt
@the_pyroneer It happens with Japanese names sometimes like 太郎 being spelt Taro, or 東京 being spelt Tokyo etc. It’s not a big deal since I know the long vowel is supposed to be there, but it does look weird. So yeah I get that
@danyglot I should say, I haven’t kept up with language learning for a while because I’ve been busy with university. But when I listened to these languages everyday and speak to people, I never had to think about speaking natural grammatical structures. I just know them
@danyglot Most of what I know in Spanish or Thai is this type of thing. I know specific phrases or grammar points intuitively just by watching series in Thai for example. And in Japanese, things like particles are second nature to me now. All of these things I don’t know how to explain
@wylfcen@Johnnydaboomer Thai has long and short diphthongs so when I found out about Old English, I was already familiar with Thai and so it wasn’t foreign to me. Surprised it was in a European language though
Hi! I'll put some of my personal tips about how to write a research paper down here.
1a.) You are writing from a 3rd person point of view. Be consistent in using the 3rd person tone, even if you are referring to yourself and your own work.
@avzaagzonunaada The first time I found out that *most languages don’t really have short words for times (months, days, weeks etc) blew my mind. So many languages have such long words for months of the year. Makes sense but my English mind was blown away
*most that I’ve seen
