if you don’t know troye sivan & the significance of the strawberries and cigarettes song, let me explain why it’s personal.

troye sivan is an openly gay man since the 2010s. this song came out almost 10 years ago and was part of a a sound track for a coming-of-age, queer love story, who faces homophobia and the challenges of being queer in 2018. The movie is called “Love, Simon” (movie) or “Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda” (book)

queer stories were limited 10 years ago compared to now, so I’ve read this book and watched the movie and felt seen as a queer person. this book and movie gave me the confidence to come out to some people. i came out to people who abandoned me after I said it.

this song was and is always outwardly queer. the artists involved are part of the revolution to fight for queer people and to feel scene. so for d*w & t*e, an advertised bromance pair to use this song in the midst of a bromance protest, is a slap to the face for my experience and for the artists involved in the evolution and impact of the song.

so yeah, fuck them.
