BTS pulling out of the GRAMMYS is a good reminder to all music-artists that those awards are not the endgame of your career.
Your career is defined by the people you gather together, not by the tiny trophy on your mantle.
my mutual just said something and it made so much sense BTS took one for the industry and whoever in kpop who submits is going to be complying with the opposite message they just sent against racism and segregation so let’s see who’s going to be the ones who does lmao
grammys have always avoided awarding non-american artists.
they constantly introduce new asian, african and latin categories just to leave the biggest awards for their national artists.
when you value music based on where the singer is from, you’re not awarding talent anymore.
And I think it’s okay to admit that in all this, there is hurt.
The hurt of knowing how much love, artistry and sweat went into the making of ARIRANG, only to deliberately exclude it from being recognised in response to institutional tokenism and xenophobia.
it’s so genius of them if you think about it. whoever wins that category will forever have to live with knowing that they only won it because bts didn’t submit. it’ll be an asterisk on the wikipedia page. the grammys viewership will tank. bts put out an album that smashed records everywhere. bts get to exist with their heads held high, as always, and don’t have to kowtow to a shitty system
BTS announces that they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 GRAMMY Awards following the Recording Academy's introduction of a new category for Asian music.
“I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”
it’s a win for us. any group that does submit for a category that was created to segregate Asian artists will go down in history as spineless and desperate. BTS have integrity, self-respect, and strength in genuine support— the most admirable award there is.
