Weird how these peacekeeping missions were able to function during Cold War, but we’re now expected to believe that the UNSC is now uniquely dysfunctional because of Russia which now requires this change. Outrageous that people who question this are being painted as Putin stooges. The parties now seeking to remove it, sang its praises for years as a keystone for Irish neutrality.

Also it’s convenient that the push to remove the triple lock right now just happens to coincide with the desire for EU to take a greater role in this sphere.

Micheál Martin was a senior Minister in the FF-led govt that gave assurances to the Irish people during the 2nd Nice Treaty Referendum that military neutrality and Irish involvement in EU military activities would be protected by the triple lock he’s now intent on removing. At the very least he should drop the incredulity that many people now feel betrayed, misled or unassured that the removal of the triple lock doesn’t weaken Irish neutrality.
