Volcanic ash cloud between flight levels 360/200. Visible from central Washington into British Columbia on GOES-West satellite imagery. Seen below as a faint thin yellow green ribbon moving northeast at 90 knots.
When flying near mountainous terrain 🗻, low ceilings and visibilities can easily conceal peaks from pilots' sight ✈️. Our very own meteorologist Max Nunes breaks down what Mountain Obscuration is in this educational short! #Aviation#Weather#Pilot#Safety#Mountains#NOAA
🌧️ Widespread rain returns Sunday to Tuesday due to an atmospheric river. Rain & snowmelt will lead to a 5-10% chance for minor flooding of rivers that drain from the Coast Range. Make sure to stay updated on the latest weather and river forecasts at the links below. #ORwx#WAwx
Snow showers are falling this AM in some spots along northern Olympic Peninsula. Here's US 101 west of Lake Crescent. A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect through noon TUE for this area as well as points south as hit & miss snow showers spread south through tonight. #wawx
Notice how wet snow is falling from the sky in this video, but melting upon impact with the ground? This is a good visual representation of what many may see occur on the valley floor during the overnight/morning hours each day this week from Tuesday through Friday...

BTW this is Adam’s last week on air as Sports Director @KOINNews. Wishing him the best, continued success @LawyersTitlePDX, and many soft pillows to land upon. 😂
🌊✈️ The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron is on the move!
This week, our Airmen deployed specialized ocean-drifting buoys off the coast of Alaska—critical tools that will gather real-time ocean and atmospheric data as they drift south ahead of upcoming Atmospheric River (AR) missions.
These buoys capture key information like surface winds, air pressure, water temperature, wave height, currents, and salinity. All that data feeds directly into environmental models that help improve forecasts for AR events, tropical cyclones, wind fields, precipitation, and more—supporting scientists, forecasters, and lifesaving warnings.

After today’s AR dissipates over the Pacific Northwest, a second stronger AR is forecast to move onshore Mon 8 Dec and remain over the region until early Thu 11 Dec. This long-duration AR is expected to result in multiple days of heavy rainfall leading to potentially significant streamflow impacts over the region.
